Herbert Hoover was born on August 10, 1874 in West Branch, Iowa in the home of his parents that was built by his father and paternal grandfather. The original house is now part of the Herbert Hoover National Historic Site. It is free and open to the public to visit. Hoover was the first president born west of the Mississippi River.
