James Polk was born on November 2, 1795 in Mecklenburg County, North Carolina in what is now Pineville, North Carolina in a log cabin on a farm owned by his parents. The house in which he was born no longer exists and a representative log cabin has been constructed on the property. The site is now part of the President James K. Polk State Historic Site owned by the State of North Carolina. It is free and open to the public to visit.
